High-fire pottery... cone 8-10... where skill, clay, glaze and fire combine to produce the most stunning works of ceramic art. Different methods of firing to reach these temperatures change the final appearance of both clay and glaze. These clay samples are shown fired in both oxidation (electric, tile on right) and reduction (fueled, tile on left) atmospheres. Highfire clays are considered foodsafe, even when unglazed, when fired to their full maturity at cone 8-10.
One of our most popular clays due to its great versatility. Plastic and forgiving. Reliable and easy to throw, great for beginners, and economical. Contains sand.

Crystal Springs Porcelain (CC517) This porcelain is white, translucent, and very throwable! We're sure you'll like the results.
Deschutes White (CC528) A cross between stoneware and porcelain, Deschutes White offers a reliable clay for potters wanting a beautiful white surface for decoration or glaze reflection.
G-Mix 10 is a user-friendly, plastic clay that forgives and forgets. Works well on the wheel, in slab work or for handbuilding. Off-white in oxidation and grey in reduction.
G-Mix 10 with the addition of 5% 35-mesh grog for extra strength when working larger.
The great George Wright developed this clay and sold it to Oregon potters for years, and now it is our pleasure to bring it to you. A heavily sanded body with coarse sand, and the addition of nylon fiber makes it a tough sculpture body. It can stand up to just about any form of abuse you can throw at it! Fires buff with moderate iron spot in reduction. (Sample fired in oxidation at cone 10.)
This domestic porcelain offers a great range of clayworking capabilities. Good plastic quality for wheelwork, as well as slabs without "fussy" attachment concerns. A great clay for production work as well as school programs.
White! Easy to throw! Great for handbuilding. Simply our most popular porcelain. Functional or fun, this porcelain does it all.
This well-rounded clay offers a rich blushing warmth with just the right amount of iron spotting for potters that enjoy an earthy palette of color. Well suited for functional or medium-sized sculptural work. An enjoyable, easy-to-use body!

George Wright again with the humor and the discovery of this unique
body! The coarsest of all our sculpture clays, this body contains two
types of coarse sand plus nylon fiber. The character of this clay comes
from the basalt sand that bleeds out when it fires. The bleedout will
vary with the temperature and atmosphere of your firing. Fires buff-grey
with brown spots in oxidation. Reduction warms up the color and brings
out iron spots along with the chocolatey basalt melts.
Wadding Recipe for Firing River Dog 1 part CH379 Greenstripe fire clay
Rich, warm red-brown color is the draw for a great stoneware. This sanded body is plastic and versatile for throwing or slab work. Works well for any size pieces from small to large. Popular with sculptors, too, for its strength in construction!
TFJ's network of grog and sand form an internal structure for a incredibly plastic clay without excessive coarseness. Great for slabs and handbuilding. Work large: this clay can take it.
Three Finger Jack Architectural (CC512A) Three Finger Jack reformulated for the demands of projects on a massive scale. While regular TFJ contains 30% blended aggregate material, TFJ-A concentrates the aggregate material to a uniform size and coarseness for even greater strength.
Three Finger Jack Red (CC512R) The fabulous original version of TFJ with an addition of Red Iron Oxide, just for those of you who like your sculpture RAW. Recommended for a max temperature of cone 8, this clay was created for artists who fire in oxidation. Please test for any use in cone 10 reduction.
A unique Northwest clay! Umpqua White's devotees love its semi-porcelain qualities as a smooth plastic body that blushes a rich, warm apricot in wood or gas firing.
