Mayco Raku Glazes
Click HERE to see Georgies raku glazes From 16th century firing methods in Japan to 20th century reduction methods of the West, Raku firing always reveals exciting and dramtic results. Mayco Raku glazes produce a variety of metallized, brilliant and crackled finishes. All Mayco's raku glazes are non-toxic, formulated using no added lead or other health caution materials. Because the glaze application, glaze firing temperature, combustible materials used in reduction, firing process and kiln type vary from artist to artist, final results will ALWAYS vary. Proper safety processes and personal protective equipment are very important when doing Raku as you are exposed to high heat, flames and smoke. Always wear heat and fire protective clothing and fireproof gloves. Do not open or insert tongs into an electric kiln without shutting off. Reduction processes should take place outside (never inside buildings!) due to flames and smoke. Note: While it is possible to heat raku pieces in electric kilns, Georgies does not recommend it. We recommend use of fueled kilns, especially those using natural gas or propane, for the best firing results. These kilns can create reduction atmospheres as a natural part of the firing process, and that contributes to the final color outcome.
